Weekend in DFW: Where Courtney Actually Takes People

Every city has a list of 'top ten things to do' that reads like it was written by someone who's never actually lived there. This isn't that list. This is where I actually go, and where I actually send people who ask.

Saturday mornings usually start local — a small coffee shop over a chain, every time. There's something about a place that remembers your order that a drive-through never replicates. From there, a farmers market if the season's right. Not for the photos. For the produce, and honestly, for the conversation.

Afternoons are for wandering a downtown square with no particular plan. McKinney's works for this. So does Historic Downtown Plano. The point isn't the specific stops. It's the pace — slow enough to actually notice the place you're in.

Evenings, I'd rather sit somewhere with a patio than somewhere with a scene. North Texas does patio season well, and a good meal outside with people you like beats a reservation you had to fight for.

None of this is groundbreaking. That's sort of the point. The best parts of living here aren't secret. They're just easy to miss if you're moving too fast to notice them. Slowing down enough to actually live in a place, not just commute through it, is most of what makes it feel like home.
